Bucs Fall Short in Pitchers Duel with East LA

LOS ANGELES - The first four innings were scoreless as the starting pitchers were throwing everything they had at the opposition, but it was the East LA Dodgers who came out on top of the Ventura County Buccaneers by a 4-1 score.

Bucs starter Drew Atherton threw for five innings, only allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts, but was charged with the loss after the Bucs' bats couldn't turn the 1-0 game around in the four innings that followed.

Dane Nakatsuka was the bright spot on the Bucs' scorecard, hitting a double, stealing a base, and scoring Ventura County's lone run. Kenny Kim also had a pair of singles and a stolen base in his effort. Stymied by the East LA pitchers, Ventura County went 7 for 35 at the plate.

The Bucs host the Trosky Redbirds in a home doubleheader Saturday at LA Valley College, with first pitch set for 11:00 AM.
