The SBL Bucs (6-1 Sunset Baseball league) took a walk-off 5-4 victory against the IV Bucs on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 thanks to a bases-clearing double with two out by Center Fielder Robert Pitts scoring three runs.

Pitts had been struggling at the plate heading into his final at bat, but came through with a line drive to left field to secure the win for the Bucs. When asked about his thoughts during that ninth innings at-bat, he said he was just “trying to hit it into the gap and score some runs.” He also stated that he ‘was trying to shorten my swing up” which was an issue he said he was having in his earlier at-bats.

Although the pitching staff had a rocky start giving up three runs in the fifth inning- they were lights out from there. Pitcher Eli Payton had himself a great game throwing three shutout innings only giving up one hit, no walks, and striking out three batters.

When asked about today’s performance, Buc’s Coach Livingston said, “pitching looked good today, giving up only three hits during the game”. He also gave high praise to Pitts talking about how even though he wasn’t having his best day at the plate he was able to find it, and do what a leadoff hitter does.

The SBL Bucs play the East Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesay June 22, 2022 at Cerritos High School at 1 pm.
