Jason Ajamian Commits to CSUN

After riding out what he described as a wave of emotions all summer long, Ventura County Pirates slugger Jason Ajamian has officially committed to Cal State Northridge for his Junior year.

Many among the Pirates and LA Valley College faithful were surprised by how long it took the Pacific Association Southern California All-Region Second Team first baseman to finally know where he’d be playing next spring. In his own words, he reminded himself to “just trust the process” and keep getting better over the summer, and his .420 batting average, 1.279 OPS, and a Sunset Baseball League-high 9 homers in his 36 games this summer certainly reflected that fulfilled goal. A local product, Jason is thrilled at being able to play baseball in his backyard, less than an hour away from home.

Pirates GM George Vranau saw CSUN this past spring as a scout and knew they needed some position players, so when he heard the Matadors hired Dave Serrano as their new head coach and Eddie Cornejo as an assistant, he quickly got in touch with them to connect them to Ajamian. He pointed out Jason’s excellent glove at first base to back up his powerful hitting, recording outs where many other players would commit errors. Further, he highlighted that his two years of junior college play will provide the experience and leadership to the Matadors that George knows four-year programs need.

Jason will have a chance to put an exclamation point on his All-Star summer as he and the Pirates face the Solana Beach Redbirds in the Sunset Baseball League Championship, starting Saturday at 7pm at Cal State Fullerton’s Goodwin Field.
