Late Heroics Lift Ventura County Pirates to 5-4 Win over Philippines Team

In a highly anticipated baseball clash, the Ventura County Pirates locked horns with the Philippines Team on Tuesday, June 20th, at Pierce College. The game proved to be quite tense, with both teams showcasing their grit and unwavering commitment to winning. Ultimately, the Pirates emerged winners with a final score of 5-4, thanks to an impressive game-winning home run by catcher Dylan Zdunek.


The Pirates and the Philippines Team battled it out for six intense innings, resulting in a 4-4 tie. The game took a decisive turn in the seventh inning when Dylan Zdunek stepped up to the plate and unleashed a powerful tomahawk swing, sending a 330-foot home run sailing over the left field wall. The ball just cleared the foul pole, securing the game-winning run for the Pirates and igniting a wave of celebration among the team and their fans.


Individual performances played a crucial role in the Pirates' success. Dylan Zdunek emerged as a standout player, contributing the game-winning home run but also delivering two hits, and driving in one RBI. Jesse Gadd displayed consistency with two hits and an RBI, while Jovan Camacho exhibited exceptional base-running skills, crossing the plate twice. Ryan Camacho also made his presence felt by reaching base easily, scoring a run, collecting two hits, and drawing two walks.


The game was filled with thrilling highlights, none more so than Dylan Zdunek's seventh-inning heroics. The dynamic home run provided the decisive moment that propelled the Pirates to victory. The pitching performances also deserve recognition, with Michael Ryhlick taking the mound for three impressive innings, facing 11 batters while recording eight strikeouts and allowing only two runs on two hits. Walter Quinn closed out the game with two solid innings, striking out five batters and securing the save for the Pirates.


Reflecting on his exceptional performance, Michael Ryhlick expressed satisfaction with his game plan, stating, "It felt good today. I came out with a game plan and stuck to it, and obviously, the results were good, so I'm pretty happy about it. Coming home with the win is always a good thing." Dylan Zdunek also expressed his delight in contributing to the team's success, remarking, "I'm glad I can contribute to the team. I'm happy I did a good job today. I was happy to get a few innings."


The game saw its fair share of errors, with both teams committing a combined total of seven. The Pirates' offense showed resilience, striking out only eight times, while their bullpen proved dominant, tallying an impressive 16 strikeouts as a group. The Pirates had 7 hits and 5 errors, while the Philippines Team recorded 9 hits and 2 errors. Additionally, three Pirates players were hit by pitches, with catcher Brody Brown being sidelined as a precaution after taking one to the head.


The victory improved the Pirates' record to 11-2, further solidifying their league ranking. Looking ahead, the Pirates will face the Foresters on Friday, June 23rd, at 6 pm at Santa Barbara City College. Fans can anticipate another thrilling matchup as the Pirates aim to continue their winning streak.
