Pirates on High Tides, Set Legends in Sights
Coming off a 12-3 home win Sunday versus the Inland Valley Bucs, Ventura County has now won 11 of their last 13 games, moving their record to (13-11-1) (12-3 Best of the West). Tuesday, they are back at home again at Los Angeles Valley College in preparation for the Long Beach Legends (4-12). This will be the second matchup this season between the two, with The Pirates winning the previous matchup 3-0. The Pirates will look to potentially jump back into first place with a win vs the Legends.
Pirates Offense Continues to Stay Hot
The Pirates have been firing on all cylinders on offense averaging nearly 7.2 runs a game within a 12 game span dating back to June 26 against the Sentinels. The Pirates are coming off of a victory in which they put 12 runs on the board against the Inland Valley Bucs. In particular, the top of the Pirates lineup has done an amazing job of getting on base, setting the tone for batters to come.. The Camacho Twins’s ability to get on base is absurd but what is also impressive is that they both lead the team in batting average with Ryan at .417 and Jovan boasting a .356. They are also first and third on the team in OBP with Ryan having a .495 OBP while his brother Jovan is not too far behind with a .484 OBP. Kyle Soberano’s return to the Pirates this season has also helped bolster the offense, with Soberano hitting .429 with 2 RBI in just 7 at bats so far this season.
Pirates pitchers have done a good job of stepping up, shutting the door on teams in the later innings. LHP Josh Yosfan continues to be lights out with a 0.53 ERA and 4 saves in 17 innings of work. Starter Brandon Doehne stood out for the pirates on the mound Sunday, pitching 4 innings with no earned runs, and picking up his third win of the season. Doehne has a 3.68 ERA with 23 strikeouts to just 8 walks thus far this season.
