Pirates Take Down Rival Sentinels at Los Angeles Valley College

In a tense matchup on Saturday, July 8th, the Ventura County Pirates clashed with the Arroyo Seco Sentinels at Los Angeles Valley College.

This marked the sixth meeting of the summer season between the Pirates and Sentinels with the Pirates holding a record of 2-3 against these opponents. The Pirates came into the game with an 11-8 overall record. The game showcased remarkable performances from key players, intense moments, and a spectacular comeback that led the Pirates to a 5-3 triumph.

Ryan Camacho emerged as a standout player, leading the team with two runs scored, a hit, and an RBI. His exceptional inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the 7th inning was a turning point, tying the game and electrifying the crowd. Andrew Tovar and Jesse Gadd also made significant contributions, each securing hits and runs. Robbie Treto's two-RBI double propelled the Pirates to victory. Despite Andrew Cisneros' impressive two hits, he could not cross the plate during the game being left stranded on base.

The game unfolded in intense back-and-forth action. The Sentinels struck first, scoring in the opening inning. Unwilling to lay down, the Pirates quickly responded with two runs of their own. The Sentinels regained the lead in the fourth inning, setting the stage for the Pirates' thrilling comeback in the seventh inning.

The game's highlight came in the 7th inning when Ryan Camacho launched a deep fly ball. This caused the Sentinel's left fielder to get their cleat stuck in the fence while attempting to secure the ball. Camacho capitalized on the situation, rounding the bases and scoring the tying run. The Pirates seized the momentum and rallied in the same inning, with Treto's clutch double bringing in the winning runs.

Pitching played a pivotal role in the Pirates' success, with Aiden Melendrez starting efficiently, allowing only one run in three innings. Yuji Sakane, Chris Lozano, and Sean Mann stepped up in relief, shutting down the Sentinels and securing the win for the Pirates.

With this victory, the Pirates' record now stands at 12-8 on the season and 3-3 against the Sentinels. Their next game is against the Redbirds on Sunday, July 9th, at El Camino College. Stay tuned for more thrilling baseball action from the Ventura County Pirates as they pursue league success.
