Pirates to Battle LAPD Baseball Team

LOS ANGELES – The Sunset Baseball League Champion Ventura County Pirates will battle the LAPD Centurions Baseball Team as the police squad prepares for Chicago’s Windy City Invitational. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30th, at Bishop Canyon Field in Los Angeles.

The Pirates are coming off of a victory over the Solana Beach Redbirds in the Sunset Baseball League Championship Finals at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton on Sunday. The Pirates, a summer collegiate baseball team led by head coach and MLB scout George Vranau, and assistant coaches Rick Marino and Alex Frapart, finished the season with a 34-10 record and were undefeated in postseason play.

The LAPD has been playing competitive baseball since 1887 when the team squared off against the local sheriff’s department. The team routinely hosts youth baseball clinics, interactive activities, and community events to help bring law enforcement, youth, and local communities together through America’s favorite pastime.
